The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) and Matugga Industries & Logistics Hub Ltd (MIL) have formalized a strategic partnership aimed at transforming agriculture and livestock productivity across Uganda.
The contract was signed on monday Jan 5th 2026 in the UMSC conference hall at a high-profile event attended by UMSC’s National Management Committee members and District Kadhis, following a half-day orientation on MIL’s operations in producing high-quality agrochemicals, seeds, animal feeds, farm tools, equipment, agricultural inputs, and protective gear.
The orientation featured an interactive session led by MIL’s Executive Director, Ms. Fiona Migadde, where experts shared insights on enhancing farming and livestock practices within communities. The session was moderated by Hon. Abdu-Razaq Arinda, UMSC Deputy Secretary General in Planning and Development, and was later joined by His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, and Hadji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi, UMSC Secretary General.
Addressing the participants, Sheikh Mubaje emphasized that the guiding principles of his leadership—unity and development—remain central to advancing the aspirations of Uganda’s Muslim community. “After almost 25 years in office, the majority of Muslims now understand and appreciate that unity is the only path to meaningful development,” he said.
The Mufti highlighted ongoing social transformation initiatives, including a self-sustenance economic project rolled out across Uganda’s ten Muslim regions three years ago. However, he acknowledged challenges, citing the Northern Muslim region where over 200 sheep were distributed to boost household incomes, but many perished due to the unfamiliar climate. MIL experts quickly provided technical guidance to address such challenges, prompting Sheikh Mubaje to commend the partnership: “It is a blessing that UMSC has found Matugga Industries & Logistics Hub Ltd as partners. We call on all Kadhis to embrace this initiative, mobilize the faithful, adopt modern farming techniques, and establish demonstration farms on idle UMSC land.”
The Mufti further urged the Kadhis to promote government poverty alleviation programs and encourage Mosque Imams to register with SACCOs. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining peace during and after elections.
Earlier, Hadji Muluubya described the UMSC-MIL partnership as timely and strategic, aligning with national development goals and societal transformation objectives.
Under the agreement, MIL will finance, stock, manage, and operate UMSC Farmers’ Centres, providing ethical, transparent, and faith-aligned agricultural products and services nationwide. UMSC, in turn, will mobilize communities and promote the program through its structure, aiming to eliminate counterfeit agro-inputs, increase productivity, and boost household incomes.
The event concluded with a formal signing ceremony. UMSC was represented by Hadji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi, witnessed by Hon. Counsel Haj Muhammad Ali Aluma, while MIL was represented by Ms. Fiona Migadde.
