MPIGI– Former Member of Parliament for Mpigi district HON Sarah nakawunde Temulanda has urged the women, young mothers and youths to embrace Elsa Africa skilling programs to reduce the unemployment rate in the country.

Speaking at the event where 42 girls, women and young mothers received certificates in tailoring and hair dressing course, at Elsa vocational training center, HON Sarah said hands on skills are the only way to reduce the rate of women, and youth unemployment in the country.

She added that it is important to empower women to be economically independent. Women’s independence will translate into stronger Uganda

The director for Elsa Africa Ddumba Lawrence asked the government to work with NGOS like Elsa Africa to come up with programs that specifically cater to the skilling needs of women and girls.

´we need to support and empower women because anyone who is skilled can sustain themselves and all and can overcome the challenge they face.

Poverty and lack of skills for the women are the causes of unwanted pregnancies, gender based violence, child neglect, unemployment, HIV / AIDS and discrimination against women that she said need to delt with. That’s why Elsa Africa came. He added

Movit Company at this event gave 30 women a startup pack graduates to go and start their journey. According to their representative, movit did this not only to Elsa but also to other organizations that empowers women overcome poverty.
