Namataba – Lugazi : This day, Sunday, October 12, 2025, St. Peter’s Church Namataba under Lugazi Archdeaconry in the Diocese of Mukono have converged to celebrate a significant milestone – 50 years since their church’s inception.

The thanksgiving service, drew large crowds and over 60 Christians were confirmed into the faith, and fundraising efforts were held to support the completion of the new church building.
The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu , was the main celebrant. In his address, he emphasized the importance of unity among Christians in realizing their dream of completing the church.
“God who started this work will see it through to completion, for He is the God of beginnings and endings,” he said. “He never fails His followers and never lies, for He is not a son of man to do so.”
Archbishop Kaziimba Mugalu, expressed gratitude to those who had offered land for the church and urged the community not to sell off their land but instead find ways to utilize it productively.
He lamented the actions of some individuals who had turned against church land donated by their ancestors, seeking to sell it for personal gain.
After the confirmation ceremony, the Bishop of Mukono, Rt.Rev.Enos Kitto Kagodo, praised the Namataba Christians for their active engagement in building the church and participating in other church activities. He encouraged them to continue reflecting their abilities and appreciation for God’s blessings.
According to Rev. Capt. Wilson Kkonde , the parish priest, 600 million Ugandan shillings is still needed to complete the church building project.
Meanwhile, Maama Margaret Kaziimba* , the Archbishop’s wife, challenged parents to take responsibility for raising their children, ensuring they grow up to be valuable members of their community and the church.
The event was a celebration of faith, community, and perseverance, highlighting the importance of unity and collective effort in achieving the church’s goals.
Three hundred sixty-seven million, one hundred six thousand (36.7106.000/=) Cash collected today & 210 bags of cement in pledge.
This semi centennial service has been attended by the former 3rd Bishop of Mukono Diocese, Bp.James William Ssebaggala, Bishop Emeritus Jackson Matovu , Archdeacons, Priests, Lay Readers, Clergy wives led by Maama Catherine Kitto, Officials from Buganda Government, Political leaders, schools and Christians.
