Mukono– The Statistics Committee of Mukono District has undergone specialized training on the Fourth Plan for National Statistical Development (PNSD IV) and the supervision of activities under the National Statistical System (NSS).
The training, held in the Board Room of the Water Department, brought together representatives from every department within the district local government.
The engagement was Organized by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) and the Planning Department of Mukono District,the session aimed to empower institutional heads with the tools to develop respective Institutional Statistical Strategic Plans aligned with national objectives.
The initiative is part of a broader national effort to strengthen the coordination, production, and use of statistics across sectors.
Mr. Kansiime, a representative from UBOS, emphasized the importance of the engagement, noting that it was designed not only to inform district stakeholders about the ongoing implementation of PNSD IV, but also to encourage them to nominate focal persons from their respective institutions.
These focal persons will work closely with the district’s Statistics Committee to support the development, coordination, and supervision of statistics-based initiatives within their departments.
“The purpose of this training is to ensure that each institution takes ownership of statistical development and contributes meaningfully to evidence-based planning and policy making,” Kansiime stated. “A focal person is key in bridging the institution and the national framework.”
Representing the Chief Administrative Officer, Ms. Fulatu Namboozothe Assistant CAO commended UBOS for organizing the engagement and underscored the value of such capacity-building efforts. She extended gratitude on behalf of the district leadership and urged UBOS to continue offering similar workshops to enhance the technical skills of staff across various departments.
“We are grateful for this opportunity to learn and align ourselves with the national agenda. We welcome more training and workshops that will enhance our performance and data-driven decision-making,” said Ms. Namboozo.
The training marks a significant step in the district’s commitment to strengthening statistical systems and ensuring that every department plays an active role in producing quality data for planning and service delivery. With a strong foundation laid through this engagement, Mukono District is poised to align more effectively with the national statistical development goals and to make evidence-based planning a cornerstone of its governance and development agenda.
