Kampala, Uganda – The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, today confirmed 112 confirmants including 48 boys and 64 girls at St. Francis Chapel, Makerere University.

In his sermon on Friday, Archbishop Kaziimba called on the newly confirmed to embrace spiritual maturity and avoid “growing in every wind of doctrine.” He emphasized that confirmation must bear visible signs of growth in Christian life.

This growth, he said, can be seen through daily reading of the Bible since the Bible is the source of transformation, unlike other books which are a source of information. He encouraged the confirmands to pray every day, to fellowship with other believers, and to let their character reflect maturity in Christ.

He also cautioned the young people against misuse of social media, noting that while some use these platforms to abuse others, they should instead use them to spread the gospel and build up society. He warned them against remaining spiritually stagnant and urged them to stand firm as role models in their communities.

The Chaplain of St. Francis Chapel, Makerere University, Rev. Dr. Lydia Nsaale Kitayimbwa, advised the confirmands to remain rooted in their church. She warned them against leaving their church for others that promote wrong doctrines and are not grounded in the Bible, stressing the importance of holding firmly to the truth of Scripture.

Shortly after the confirmation Service, the Archbishop led a dedication Service for Senior Four candidates of Makerere College School (MACOS). He encouraged the students to overcome fear through prayer and trust in the Lord, and to avoid activities and beliefs that divert them from education and a brighter future.

Mrs. Juliet Atuheire Muzoora, Commissioner for Secondary Education at the Ministry of Education and Sports, commended MACOS for being a centre of excellence under the leadership of Headteacher Dr. Martin Muyingo.

She noted that the Ministry values schools that place emphasis on the wellbeing and holistic development of children, not just infrastructure.

She further disclosed that MACOS was selected under the Uganda Secondary Education Expansion Program, which has already provided the school with 17 computers, a modern projector, and an internet router to strengthen teaching and learning.

Several dignitaries attended the service, including the Mayor of Kawempe Division, Dr. Emmanuel Sserunjonji, representatives from the Directorate of Education at Kampala Capital City Authority, clergy, parents, and students.
