KAMPALA -The National Resistance Movement (NRM), Secretary General has ordered all leaders in the party, who were defeated in Party Primaries and went ahead to be nominated as independents, to hand over the offices they hold with in the party.

“The purpose of this communication therefore is to direct those who have been
nominated as INDEPENDENT to resign your positions as Party leaders and handover the offices to your Vice Chairpersons or your respective level NRM Party Chairpersons.”
He also warned all those who will not take heed, that they will also be suspended from participating in electoral activities on behalf of the NRM Party.
“This is done to ensure cohesion in the Party and smooth coordination of campaign activities.”
The National Electoral Commission started out the nomination of candidates for elective positions at different levels from 3rd September, 2025 and is due to close on 16th October, 2025.
NRM expressed concern about some of its party members who were defeated in Party Primaries to contest as independents which is against the Party’s position.
