KAMPALA, Uganda- The two Advocates, Phillip Munaabi (former Secretary General) and Geoffrey Turyamusiima (former representative Central region), have not been able to serve their one year term at Uganda Law Society Council after majority members decided to censor them.

This followed their actions of November 2024, in which the duo tried to over throw the ULS President Isaac Ssemakadde and Vice President Anthony Asiimwe which was against the rules governing the Association.
The council that sat electronically on 24th November 2024, agreed to suspend those members pending the decision of the General meeting, but the same couldn’t be held by then due to pending court cases which have been concluded in less than a week back.
In a meeting held on Wednesday, at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala, total of 462 members have voted to censure the duo for their misconduct, well as 83 Voted for them to stay and 35 members were neutral.
“By resolution of this assembly , we pass a motion to censure the above individuals from their positions.” Announced Anthony Assimwe, Vice President Uganda Law Society
About their removal from the Society’s Governing Council, 394 members have voted for their removal, 100 members voted for their stay well as 35 remained neutral.
“By the resolution of the meeting, the assembly from this meeting resolves to remove the above members from their positions with immediate effect.”
The members decided that on top this, these members deserve to be thoroughly investigated and be subjected to criminals proceedings so that such actions of playing with people’s powers are not witnessed anywhere again.
Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago one of the experienced lawyers on commenting about the matter, advised that it’s not proper to condemn any body unheard but since Munaabi and Turyamusiima were granted an opportunity to defend themselves and decided not to turn up for the meeting, then there is no way anybody can defend them.
In his guidance, counsel Jet Tumwebaze advised that it was wrong for a few council Members to overthrow members who were elected by the majority without consulting them.
However before voting, Anthony Asiimwe, ULS Vice President informed the members that the duo were invited to defend themselves on the above allegations before the General meeting, but they said that it was illegal and they will not be able to attend such a gathering.
