Ntunda Sub County, Mukono – The Mukono District Health Team has conducted a rapid assessment of Kyabazaala Health Centre III in Ntunda Sub County following a natural disaster that struck the area on Sunday at approximately 4:00 PM.

The disaster caused significant destruction, damaging homes, crops, and the roofing structure of the health facility, which is a key provider of medical services to the community.
In the aftermath of the incident, a team from the Mukono District Local Government Health Department visited the site and engaged with local leaders in a meeting aimed at mapping out a recovery plan. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Musis Bam Robert, the Community Development Officer (CDO) and Sub County Assistant Chief Administrative Officer (SACAO). It was attended by Ntunda Sub County Chairperson LCIII Mr. Ssenzira Philemon, area councillors, and village leaders.
During the meeting, Mr. Fred Ojambo, the Chairperson LCI of Kyabazaala, highlighted the broader impact of the disaster on the community. “This wasn’t just about the health centre. Many families lost homes, food, and crops. We are grateful for the district’s swift response and urge for more support where possible,” he stated.

CDO/SACAO Musis Bam echoed the community’s relief that no injuries were reported, despite the extent of the damage. He emphasized the importance of proactive planning and joint leadership in disaster response. “While we thank God no lives were lost, this is a wake-up call to build resilience. We must now focus on ensuring continuity of health services and general well-being,” he said.
Ms. Rose Mugerwa Nassali, the Assistant In-Charge of Kyabazaala Health Centre III, shared a brief account of the incident. She confirmed that the facility was unoccupied at the time of the disaster, which likely prevented injuries or fatalities. She expressed gratitude to all who attended the meeting and supported the centre during this challenging period.
The Chairperson LCIII Mr. Ssenzira Philemon commended the Mukono District technical team, led by Assistant District Health Officer Mr. Isaac Dumba, for their timely intervention. He assured the community that both local and district leaders would work hand-in-hand to restore the facility. “We are committed to mobilizing resources to ensure the roofing is replaced and services resume fully,” he affirmed.
Beyond the structural damage, concerns were raised regarding staffing at the health centre. Local leaders noted that the facility had been relying on volunteer health workers, who were recently withdrawn and This left a service gap that must be addressed. The district team acknowledged the issue and pledged to look into deploying additional health personnel.
The joint assessment and stakeholder engagement at Kyabazaala Health Centre III reflect a strong commitment by both the Mukono District Health Team and local leadership to restore critical health infrastructure and support the affected community. With plans underway to replace the roof and address staffing gaps, there is renewed hope that Kyabazaala HC III will soon return to full operational capacity.
