The Anti corruption court has released on bail the former Makerere University Business School principal Prof. Wasswa Balunywa who has been in prison for three days over charges related to corruption.

The Prof. has been released on a cash bail of 5 million shillings in the first case of recruiting unqualified staff, and 10 million shillings cash in the second case of alleged mass recruitment at MUBS.
His sureties have been also bonded at a non cash of 50 and 100 million shillings in respect of the two charges.
The presiding chief magistrate Racheal Nakyazze set the 15th October 2025 as the date for mention and pre-trial proceedings in both charges.
The DPP accuses Balunywa for allegedly overstepping his authority as the principal MUBs between 2020 and 2023 by appointing 103 academic staff, 17 administration staff and 69 supporting staff without following the procedures of the institution appointments committee.
