Mbale City Mayor Cassim Namugali, has been cleared by the Electoral Commission (EC) to seek a second five-year term in office, as the EC launched its nationwide nomination exercise for candidates for local council.

Namugali, who represents the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), pledged to continue his campaign to develop the city and expand services to residents if re-elected.
“I have scored highly in keeping the city clean during my tenure. When we came in, there were heaps of garbage everywhere, but we have managed to collect and maintain cleanliness,” Namugali said.
Speaking to Bugisu intellectual he added that his administration has stood firm against land grabbers and mismanagement of public land.
“The people of Mbale know where this town has come from. Many had sold off government land everywhere, but we have protected it,” he noted.
Namugali thanked residents for their support and appealed to them to re-elect him so he can build on the progress he made.
“We lost two years to COVID, but in the remaining two years we achieved a lot, ranging from schools to road infrastructure. Because of our performance, the World Bank has returned and is going to fund 14 kilometers of new roads in Namatala, Nauyo, Kampala Road, Indian Quarters, and other areas,” he said.
The mayor also revealed that his administration purchased a new grader using local revenue without government funding and has set aside funds to purchase a roller for further road works.
Namugali urged everyone not to waste your votes, vote him to move the city forward as we continue giving service delivery.
