Mukono District Local Government has trained 20 women groups under the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) to prepare them for upcoming financial support, urging participants to focus on enterprises they are passionate about and capable of sustaining.

Some of the women who turned up for the training.

The training, which attracted over 60 participants, centered on mindset change, business planning, and financial management ahead of the release of government funds to support women-led enterprises in the district. Held in the Chief Administrative Officer’s (CAO) boardroom, the session brought together representatives from different sub-counties and town councils.

Participants received practical guidance on business planning, record keeping, financial management, loan utilization, and sustainability, with emphasis on starting and managing enterprises that contribute to poverty eradication. The programme aims to enable women to implement viable businesses, enhance their social and economic potential, create self-employment opportunities, and raise income levels.

Mr. Musisi Bamu, the Senior Community Development Officer in Mukono District and Ntunda Sub-County Chief, encouraged beneficiaries to adopt a positive mindset and move out of their comfort zones if they want to succeed.

He cautioned them against investing in businesses they do not understand and advised them to prioritize ventures they are passionate about.

“Be persistent, love your businesses, and avoid unnecessary expenditures after receiving funds. Always plan, consult experts, and stay committed to your group vision and mission,” he said.

He also warned against group wrangles, poor planning, and quick decision-making, noting that these often lead to failure. Instead, he urged the women to remain prayerful, patient, and appreciative of the opportunities presented.

Mr. Ntege Kenneth, the Principal Commercial Officer Mukono, reminded the groups that trustworthiness and patience are key in business growth. He emphasized the importance of ignoring discouraging voices and staying focused on set goals.

“Making money takes time. Focus on the business you have planned for, stay consistent, and ignore people who claim there is no money in farming. With the right knowledge, even farming can be profitable,” he advised, encouraging those with access to wetlands to invest in vegetable growing.

The Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) in Mukono continues to play a transformative role in empowering women economically. By focusing on mindset change, capacity building, and sustainable enterprise development, the programme positions women as key drivers of social and economic progress in the district.

With the upcoming financial support, women groups are expected to leverage these skills to establish and grow businesses that will reduce poverty, create jobs, and promote inclusive development.

This training marks a significant step toward women’s economic empowerment in Mukono District. By instilling a culture of proper planning, accountability, and passion-driven entrepreneurship, UWEP not only equips women with practical knowledge but also builds their confidence to transform ideas into sustainable income-generating ventures. The district leadership remains committed to supporting these efforts, ensuring that women take center stage in driving the local economy forward.
