KAMPALA– The high court criminal division has further adjourned the hearing of the treason case against Rtd col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye, his aide Hajji Obeid Lutale and a UPDF soldier capt Denis Olaa up to the 1st October 2025.

This after Besigye and Lutale failed to turn up in court and instead delivered a letter that they are unable to attend today’s hearing citing illness, while Hajj Obeid simply stated he was unable.
Their letters were submitted to the court and read out by Justice Emmanuel Baguma, however according to lead counsel Martha Karua, Dr Besigye’s legal team was not aware of the letters prior to the court session
The Deputy DPP Lino Anguzu noted that the case cannot proceed without the accused unless permitted by the court.
Only Captain Denis Oola appeared in court before it was adjourned to the later date.
Besigye and Lutale have been on remand since November last year on charges of treason they allegedly committed in countries of Kenya, Greece and Switzerland between 2023 and November last year.
