Security agencies under the Uganda Police Force have arrested more than 160 suspects in a series of coordinated disruptive operations aimed at combating crime in the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
The operations, conducted between February 15 and the morning of February 16, 2026, targeted criminal hotspots, drug abuse centres, and areas linked to robberies and theft.
According to Rachel Kawala, the crackdown forms part of ongoing efforts to address rising criminal activity and enhance public safety.
“In a continued effort to combat crime in the Kampala Metropolitan Area, police conducted coordinated disruptive operations targeting identified hotspots, marijuana smoking points, and black spots associated with simple robberies, paver attacks, drug abuse, and other criminal activities,” she said.
Nsangi Operations
Police from the Nsangi Policing Division conducted night operations from 8:00pm to 1:30am in Kyengera, Kazinga, Nabazizza, Wakimese, Masanda, Kinaawa, Kikajjo, Kasenge, and Nakasozi.
The operation targeted marijuana smoking points and areas linked to simple robberies and other crimes, resulting in the arrest of 80 suspects.
Kajjansi Crackdown
In a separate operation, Kajjansi Police carried out enforcement activities at around 11:00 pm in Akright Estate and Kinyarwanda following community complaints about increased cases of phone snatching, number plate theft, burglaries, and related offences.
The operation focused on criminal hideouts, including unfinished and abandoned buildings, construction sites, and bars operating beyond permitted hours. A total of 15 suspects were arrested and charged.
Nateete Operations
On the morning of February 16, police in Nateete conducted operations in Busega Zone 8, Musoke Zone, Kabawo, Busega Central C, and Kibumbiro. Authorities arrested 71 suspects during the exercise, who were subsequently charged.
Police say the operations will continue to ensure law and order, urging the public to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities within their communities.
