Kampala-The Ministry of Works and Transport (MoWT) has announced the resumption of periodic maintenance works along the Kampala Northern Bypass, with Phase One set to commence on February 13, 2026, and run for a period of at least two months.
According to the public notice dated February 9, 2026, issued Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Works, Bageya Waiswa, Ministry has informed road users that the works will be carried out between Bwaise Interchange and Namungoona Interchange. As a result, traffic along the affected section will be diverted, with the carriageway under construction fully closed and motorists temporarily rerouted to the opposite side.
According to the Ministry, the maintenance works will involve the removal of the existing asphalt, base preparation, priming, and the laying of a new asphalt overlay. The project is being undertaken by M/s Stirling Civil Engineering Ltd on behalf of the Ministry of Works and Transport.
MoWT has advised motorists to exercise patience, observe all traffic signage, and strictly follow instructions issued by traffic personnel deployed on site to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow during the construction period.
Road users have further been encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and, where possible, use alternative routes away from the Northern Bypass to minimize inconvenience.
The Ministry expressed regret over any disruption caused by the works and appealed for public cooperation, noting that the maintenance is aimed at improving road infrastructure and enhancing the overall driving experience on one of Kampala’s key transport corridors.
