Kampala- The Outgoing Chief Justice of Uganda Alfonse Owiny Dollo Chigamoy, has thanked all those that have supported him throughout his Judicial Career.
Dollo whose term in office elapsed last night, upon clocking 70 years, the mandatory age to retire from Judiciary service.
At the hand over ceremony held at Judiciary headquarters in Kampala, the outgoing Chief Justice noted that he is happy that he is leaving behind a well organized Judiciary with a number of new reforms aimed at speeding up the Judicial process.
“Although I leave the apex of Judiciary today, I remain a permanent member of the Judiciary. For me Judiciary has been a family to me and when I speak this, I mean it.”
Dollo promised to continue visiting the Judiciary to check on colleagues, as well as several reforms and issuing guidance where it is required.
“The Chief Justice emeritus led us properly as a team. We never had any bickering, if it happened, it stopped in the board room.This has been the best leadership in the top management. He offered us a leverage to perform.” Dr Flavian Zeija on addressing the gathering
He also commended Dollo for having introduced Alternative Dispute Resolution in the Judiciary which has become a popular form of administering justice all over the African continent.
Principal Judge, Jane Frances commended the outgoing Chief Justice for the warm hospitality, he granted her upon assumption of her new office at Judiciary.
“Your respect for customary practices, community values and indigenous dispute resolution mechanisms has greatly improved the country’s Judiciary system, bridging the gap between formal courts and traditional systems.
Dr. Pius Bigirimana, the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to Judiciary one of those that have known Dollo for more than 40 years, thanked him for the team work which enabled the Judiciary budget to raise from 190 billion shillings to over 400 billion shillings as it stands now.
“As the office of Chief Registrar, we express our deepest appreciation to your leadership, during your tenure, you led of top management in providing steady guidance and unwavering commitment to the rule of law.” Remarked Pamella Lamunu , the Acting Chief Registrar
She further added, that the Knowledge and wisdom they have gathered from Dollo, will inspire many in the Judiciary and private legal practice.
