As Uganda approaches a critical election period, the Mufti of Uganda, His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje has urged believers to intensify worship, uphold discipline and patriotism, and translate faith into responsible action within their communities.

This message is contained in a 12-page booklet containing his new year message signed on January 5th, 2026. The message is issued in line with the Mufti’s mandated duties as provided for under the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) Constitution, as amended in 2022.
Reflecting on the year 2025 and offering Islamic spiritual guidance for 2026, punctuated with several Holy Qur’anic verses, the Mufti implored believers to devote themselves to striving to fulfill the will of Almighty Allah through constant worship, good deeds, and passionate service to others in their respective communities.
In the message, the Mufti highlighted several milestones achieved by UMSC in the past year, including progress in infrastructure development, education, health, acquisition of income-generating property, institutional systems strengthening, community economic empowerment, and the successful completion of court cases. He also cited national unity and harmonious cooperation with government, faith groups, and development partners.
He further expressed profound gratitude to UMSC staff at various levels for the remarkable progress registered in governance, reporting, and accountability during the year under review. The Mufti also noted that the country is entering a critical moment in mid-January 2026, when Ugandans will be electing their national leaders.
He urged all Ugandans to remain calm, disciplined, and patriotic as they exercise their right to vote, noting that, “elections are temporary but our responsibilities, relationship and lives will continue throughout the year and beyond. So, we call for self-restraint, Wisdom and clear minds during these periods.”
He concluded by admonishing the faithful to ensure that their actions speak louder than words, emphasizing that Islam thrives through responsibility, sincerity, and trustworthiness if believers are to make any positive impact.
