Kampala– The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has withdrawn corruption charges against three National Resistance Movement (NRM) Members of Parliament who have been facing Prosecution since last year.
These who include; Yusuf Mutembuli, Akamba Paul, and Cissy Namujju, this has closed their prosecution before the High Court Anti Corruption Division.
The nolle prosequi, Serial No. 0054, was formally presented to court in January 2026, accordance with Section 133 of the Trial on Indictment Act, Cap. 25, which grants the DPP constitutional authority to discontinue criminal proceedings at any stage before judgment is delivered. (Here the DPP is not required to give a reason for withdrawing charges)
The nolle was signed by Lino Anguzu , the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Hon. Cissy Namujju is Woman Member of Parliament representing Lwengo district, Hon. Yusuf Mutembuli represents Bunyole East Constituency and Hon. Akamba Paul represents Busiki County South Constituency in Parliament.
The allegations against the three involved allegations of soliciting of a bribe from Mariam Wangadya, Chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission, on May 13,2024.
That the Legislators were demanding 20 percent of the anticipated budget of the UHRC for the financial year 2024/2025 with a promise that they will use their influence on the Budget Committee of the Parliament of Uganda to increase the UHRC budget in exchange for this bribe.
