Kampala– Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court has remanded Sarah Bireete, the Executive Director of Center for Constitutional Governance (CCG) to Luzira Prison until 21st January 2026.

Sarah Bireete, 49 years resident of Kiwango-Namwezi Village Bukerere Parish in Mukono district, has been charged with Unlawful obtaining or disclosing of personal data contrary to Section 35 (1) and (2) of the Data Protection and Privacy Act, Cap 97.
During plea taking, Sarah denied the charges against him and thereafter her lawyers applied for their client to be released on bail pending hearing of the matter.
The trial Magistrate has adjourned the matter to 21st January 2026 to deliver the ruling on the bail application.
Prosecution contends that Sarah Bireete and others still at large, between the month of January 2025 and December 2025, at various places within Uganda including Kampala, Mukono and Wakiso Districts, unlawfully obtained or disclosed data, to wit, National Voter’s Information, controlled or processed by the Electoral Commission, without prior consent of the said Electoral Commission.
