Mukono District Local Government Conducts End-of-Year 2025 Community Outreach at St. Elizabeth Children’s Home, Commends Care for Children with Disabilities

Mukono– Leaders and technical staff from Mukono District Local Government have commended the management of St. Elizabeth Children’s Home in Nangwa for its dedicated care and support to children, including those with disabilities.

Speaking during a monitoring and support visit, the Chairperson of Nangwa Village, Mr. Moses Lubega, applauded district officials led by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for visiting the home and checking on the welfare of the children.

He appealed to district leadership to make such visits regular, noting that the home plays a vital role in supporting vulnerable children in the community.

Mr. Lubega also dismissed allegations circulating among some members of the public that St. Elizabeth Children’s Home operates for self-interest. He emphasized that the home has supported many children and families and remains committed to genuine child welfare.

Similarly, the Speaker of Nakisunga Sub-county, Mr. John Walusimbi Mpanga, thanked the Mukono District leadership, led by the CAO, for prioritizing the welfare of children with disabilities. He noted that children at the home are well cared for and are not subjected to any form of exploitation or illegal charges. He added that the home works closely with local leaders and maintains a strong relationship with the surrounding community.

During the visit, Mr. Kiyaga Yafeesi Kawonawo, who oversees health and Gender matters who is also the Vice Chairperson LCIII in Nakisunga Sub county, requested the Chief Administrative Officer and district officials to continue supporting the home, particularly by providing essential items and basic health-related supplies.

He also commended Ms. Babirye Betty, the Manager of St. Elizabeth Children’s Home, for her dedication and compassionate leadership.

The Community Development Officer for Nakisunga, Mr. Esteriko Kyegombe, appreciated the CAO and district team for considering the home during their outreach. He also praised the home’s management for restoring hope among the children under their care.

Providing a background to the institution, Ms. Babirye Betty, Manager of St. Elizabeth Children’s Home, explained that the home was established to restore hope to vulnerable children and their families. She noted that the love and compassion for children motivated a foreign couple a husband and wife to start the facility. She further revealed that St. Elizabeth Children’s Home is now officially registered as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) after acquiring the necessary certification.

In the same engagement, the District Community Development Officer of Mukono, Ms. Minisa Namukose Kirya, represented by Ms. Najjuma Dorah who is the Senior Probation and walfare officer, commended the management of St. Elizabeth Children’s Home for the commendable work they are doing in caring for children.

She also thanked district staff for monitoring the home and pledged continued collaboration between the district and the institution to ensure the wellbeing of children.

Representing the Chief Administrative Officer of Mukono, Mr. Francis Kizito Walubi, who also serves as the Principal Town Clerk of Nakifuma-Naggalama Town Council, applauded all stakeholders who support the survival and wellbeing of children at the home. He thanked the management of St. Elizabeth Children’s Home for their exceptional and selfless service, as well as parents and community members for their continued support.

The visit by Mukono District leaders to St. Elizabeth Children’s Home underscored the district’s commitment to child protection, inclusion, and community partnership.

Leaders reaffirmed their support for institutions that care for vulnerable and children with disabilities, emphasizing transparency, collaboration, and sustained monitoring. With continued support from government and the community, St. Elizabeth Children’s Home remains a beacon of hope for children in Nangwa and the wider Mukono District.
