Kampala-Former Students of Makerere College School (MACOS) under their umbrella Association of Makerere College Old Students Association (MACOSA), have launched a campaign to raise 600 computer for their school in a bid to promote Digital Learning.

At their Annual Dinner held at Hotel Africana Kampala on Saturday, these discussed means of strengthening their Association, building stronger bonds among themselves, creating employment as well as developing their school through a fundraising campaign aimed at raising 600 Computers.
“AI has taken a center stage
Robotics and AI may not be under the curriculum but students need to learn them inorder to be relevant in the job market,we want career guidance led by old students focus in that area. Being that UNEB has made Computerization a bigger Component, there is a need for a well equipped computer Laboratory.” Remarked Dennis Sembuya MACOSA President.
It’s from this background, that the old students launched the fundraising campaign for 600 Computers to MACOS. “We want a ratio of one student per computer or a minimum of 2 students one computer.”
Sembuya promised that, during the remaining period of his leadership, him with his team, are going to drive the Association in a Digitized manner so as to improve on Mobilization.
“Some of benefits that comes with this Association is that; when Some one finishes O level or A level, you automatically become an old student of MACOS. As the Association, we give you a recommendation in case you were well behaved which you can use to get internship placements from some of the companies led or owned by our members like Engineer Kagga of Kagga and Partners.
He added that such opportunities increases on chances of the members after graduation to get jobs because they have experience which is a key requirement in the market today.
Joyce Nabaggala Kikomeko, a member of the Association and a former Mothers Union leader in Namirembe Diocese, revealed that through this Association, she managed to secure jobs for her children in companies owned by her fellows in MACOSA.
“I joined MACOS in 1955 and spent there six years. Am impressed by the Association leadership for such an initiative which has helped many to get connections. I call upon all those that have not yet joined to come and register so that they can also be in position to tap in the endless benefits for members.”
She also pointed out that it was through the good works of the Old Students Association that, the School managed to acquire land for expansion at Mulawa in Kira Municipality which has created more space for academic excellence.
“Our season as young people is now, let us all join hands and work with the elders (pioneer students) in ensuring that we lift our school to the next level with love.” Remarked Martha Namuyimbwa, student of MACOS from 2017 to 2023
She called upon all those that didn’t make it to their annual dinner due to several reasons, to prepare early so that next time they don’t miss, because such gatherings have a lot of lessons which they must learn.
