Old Kampala– The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) Sectoral Committees on Education and Social Services have concluded their meetings, following the example of other committees that met earlier this week.

The Education Committee, chaired by Hon. Haj Muhmood Kateregga Sebuganda Namuguzi, held sessions with several subcommittees: Policy chaired by Hon. Haj Sulaiman Madadda, Sports chaired by Hon. Ariga Rasul, and ICT chaired by Hon. Haj Ali Karatunga.
Their discussions centered on a detailed 14-page report prepared by Sheikh Juma Bakhit Cucu, head of the Education Department. The report covered activities implemented between January and September 2025.
Key achievements included the construction of government-aided seed secondary schools under the USSEP Program in sub-counties that lacked schools. Examples cited were Mbirizzi SS and Katovu in Lwengo District, Kanyamurera SS in Bushenyi, and Aturukuku SS in Tororo District.
The report also highlighted the construction of the Tahfizul Quran Centre in Yumbe District, built in partnership with the Turkish charity Care. In Muduma, Mityana Muslim District, Al-Fajir Orphanage Center was opened as a fully-fledged primary school with 50 learners.
Several scholarships were also secured from Egypt, Sudan, the International University of East Africa, and Libya. Shortlisted recipients await confirmation from host institutions.
The department conducted school inspections in Kampala, West Buganda, and Ankole-Kigezi regions. Administrators were trained in data collection and sensitized on school remittances.
The committee also reviewed existing challenges and drafted recommendations for improvement.
Meanwhile, the Social Services Sectoral Committee, chaired by Hon. Dr. Ismail Gainamungu, discussed a seven-page report compiled by Hon. Shaffi Imam Kagiiko, head of Social Services and Grants.
The department oversees child welfare, refugees, the needy, agriculture, NGOs, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups.
Its report noted several achievements this quarter. These included the successful coordination of the National Iftar Dinner during Ramadhan, and participation in Martyrs’ Day celebrations .In conjunction with the National Muslim Women Council,the department reported that UGX 2.25 billion pledged by President Yoweri Museveni for Muslim women SACCOS across the country was secured. It monitored Agri–Self Sufficiency Projects in Muslim regions and submitted a concept work plan for the National Advisory Board on Islamic Banking to government authorities
In addition, it advanced plans for UMSC and Imams’ SACCOS and engaged international agencies such as UNDP and other diplomatic missions.
The committee also identified key challenges and proposed recommendations for improvement.
