KAMPALA– Lawyers representing Rtd Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye have challenged the High court judge Emmanuel Baguma to cite out any clause in Ugandan laws that bars a suspect from addressing his or her concerns orally before a competent court of law.

This came after justice Baguma denied Dr. Kiiza Besigye a chance to orally address his concerns to court as it was per his request.
and instead instructed him to put his concerns in writing.
The judge noted that it is not in order for a person who is represented by a team of lawyers to address Court while the counsels still have the instructions.
The decision was protested by Besigye’s legal team led by Martha Wangari Karua and asked the judge to explain the circumstances that can bar a suspect from addressing the court.
However the judge stood by his decision and ordered Besigye to file his concerns before Friday this week, and he will respond to the same on Wednesday nextweek.
Besigye, his aide Hajji Obeid Lutale and a UPDF soldier capt. Denis Olaa have been on remand since November last year on charges of treason they allegedly committed in countries of Kenya, Greece and Switzerland between 2023 and November last year.
