LWEZA– As we are left with a few hours to commencement of the Nomination Exercise for candidates intending to Contest Presidency of Uganda in 2026, Electoral Commission has thrown out candidates for Uganda People’s Congress (UPC).

According to the letter released on Monday afternoon, Dr. Simon Byabakama, Chairperson for Electoral Commission has Clarified that it will not need nominate Jimmy Akena or Dennis Adim who had expressed to contest on Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) Ticket
“Accordingly, the Commission concluded that none of the parties is recognized as flag bearer in law and in fact. The party and all concerned are therefore, advised to comply with the party constitution and subsisting Court orders.” Remarked Justice Simon Byabakama, Electoral Commission Chairperson.
On coming up with that decision, Byabakama was guided by the Court decision of Misc.Cause No. 148/2025, which stated that the nomination of Hon. Jimmy James Micheal Akena for the office of the UPC Party President for the period 2025-2030 is ilegal, null and void.
“Further, the nomination of Mr. Dennis Adim Enap did not comply with Article 13 (5) of the UPC party Constitution.”
He also emphasized it that , the convening of the said Extra Delegates Conference did not comply with Articles 25 (2) and (3) of the party Constitution. Therefore the commission concluded that none of the parties fulfilled the requirements to nominated as UPc flag bearer.
The Electoral Commission on Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 23rd, will hold the Nomination exercise for all those intending to contest for Presidency in the forthcoming 2026 General Elections.
