KAMPALA-In a period of less than a month, when Makindye East legislator, Hon. Derrick Nyeko has announced that he has dropped out of the race of those planning to contest on the same seat on National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, things seem to have changed.

“I know this decision may not be easy for my team and supporters to receive, especially after our strong belief that we would once again win the Makindye East MP seat. However, after deep reflection, I have made the difficult decision not to offer myself for election in the coming polls.” Remarked Nyeko on 2nd September 2025
Ever since then he has been so philosophical blaming corruption as one of the Road blocks that may have forced him not to contest again, this making it look like there are some people whom he fought over corruption that could have turnned against him.
As everyone was asking the other on, the legislator’s next move, on Tuesday morning, he shocked many as he appeared in the queue for those awaiting to be vetted to hold NUP flag for Makindye East seat in the forthcoming general elections.
Although many tried to ask him more about his position, he didn’t say much.
