KAMPALA– Government through Ministry of Works and Transport (MoWT) has warned all people operating with in drainage structures and road reserves country wide to vacate them as soon as possible before the law takes its course.

“This is enshrined in Sections 15 and 16, including the penalties under Section 65 of the Roads Act, 2019. Therefore, traders who have erected platforms, stalls, or shelters over drainage channels are advised to vacate immediately.
This encroachment blocks water flow, weakens road surfaces, and increases the risk of flooding, especially during the rainy season.” Reads part of the announcement issued by Mr. Bageya Waiswa, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works and Transport.
He added , that such illegal actions damages critical road infrastructure and endangers the safety of road users and communities.
“Enforcement operations will commence this month to remove all illegal encroachments on drainage channels across different highways, starting with Gayaza-Kalagi, Busega-Bujjuuko, Kawempe-Bombo, Nakawa–Kireka- Bweyogerere, Nansana–Kakiri highways and will spread out to other highways.”
Waiswa therefore, urged those affected to take note and vacate voluntarily before enforcement
“Let us work together to protect our roads, ensure safety, and reduce flooding risks during this rainy season.”
