Zanzibar, Tanzania – Last night , Sudan successful maintained it’s unbeaten record in 2025 CHAN Tournament, after defeating Algeria in the match which was sealed in penalty kick out of 4-2 at Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
With this victory, Kwesi Sudan, secured a spot in the semifinals, where they will face Madagascar another well prepared team.
Both teams came into the game full of confidence after advancing from the group stage, and the mutual respect between Appiah and Algeria’s coach Madjid Bougherra was evident in the build-up. However, once on the pitch, intensity took over.
The first half was cagey, with few clear chances. The closest came just before the break when Salah Adil forced goalkeeper Zakaria Bouhalfaya into a fine save to keep the scores level.

The Desert Foxes, who came in on a 10-match unbeaten run in the CHAN, fought back strongly. Their pressure paid off in the 73rd minute when Soufiane Bayazid pounced on a loose ball in the box to equalize.
The game turned into a back-and-forth battle. In extra time, Mohamed Tia Asad went close with a header, while Aimen Mahious forced two spectacular saves from goalkeeper Mohamed Abooja, who was already emerging as the hero of the night.
In the end, the 1-1 scoreline after 120 minutes meant the tie had to be decided by penalties.
In the shootout, Walieldin Khidir and Mohamed Ahmed Saeed scored confidently for Sudan. For Algeria, Bayazid and Mahious also converted, but it was Abooja who tilted the balance. The Sudanese keeper saved from Mehdi Merghem and Zakaria Draoui, while Ahmed Tabanja and Mohamed Tia Asad sealed the win for the Falcons of Jediane

With this victory, Sudan reach the CHAN semifinals for the third time in their history and remain unbeaten in the tournament after notable results like a 4-0 win over Nigeria and a draw against Senegal. Their next challenge will be against Madagascar on August 26 in Dar es Salaam.
The other semifinal will see Morocco take on the defending champions Senegal who defeated Uganda Cranes in Namboole, Kampala.
