Fort Portal – The Court of Appeal is set to hold a three-day Criminal Appeals session in Fort Portal, during which a total of 27 criminal appeals have been fixed for hearing.

According to the cause list
signed by the Court’s Registrar, Her Worship Rukundo Allen Owembabazi, the session is scheduled to run from 2nd September to 4th September, 2025.
It will be presided over by a panel of three Justices, consisting Lady Justice Hellen Obura, Justice Dr. Asa Mugenyi, and Lady Justice Stella Alibateese.
The cause list, indicates that, of the appeals expected to be handled during the session, Murder has the highest number of cases with 17 appeals.
This is followed by Aggravated Defilement with seven (07) appeals,
while Aggravated Robbery has three (03) appeals.
One of the appellants seeks to overturn a life imprisonment sentence imposed by the High Court for the offence of murder.
Preparations
A pre-hearing meeting, presided over by all Justices on the panel, Lady Justice Obura, Justice Dr. Mugenyi and Lady Justice Alibateese, was held earlier today in preparation for this upcoming session.
The meeting aimed at assessing the readiness of all stakeholders involved in the hearing of the appeals, to identify and address any potential gaps before the session commences.
Present were Magistrates Grade I attached to the Justices. These included HW Sumaya Kasule-Rutahwire (Principal), HW Dr. Namae Irene, Mr. Dennis Rwatooro (Senior Systems Administrator), and Mr. Experito Ssebayigga (Clerk).
Also in attendance was a representative from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Mr. Kulu Idambi J.B., Assistant DPP. Mr. Geoffrey Chan Masereka and Mr. Hakim Ngobi (Defence Counsel) were also present.
