Over 40 candidates aspiring for leadership at different levels have returned their nomination of interest forms and have been nominated by the Electoral Commission of the Democratic Front to contest in the forthcoming party primaries ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Among those nominated are four candidates who have crossed from several political parties to the Democratic Front, including Christine Abeja from the NRM, who recently participated in the NRM primaries for Ngora Woman MP, and Christopher Okwi, who also participated in the NRM primaries for Ngora District Chairperson but did not succeed.
The two have publicly informed the media that they grew tired of the undemocratic practices within the NRM party and decided to find a new home in the DF.
Other defectors include Ebiau Peter Carlos from the Forum for Democratic Change, who is vying for the Kasozi County MP seat.
Ebiau Peter Carlos informed the media that his decision to join was motivated by the values that the DF carries, as reflected in its party constitution and agenda.
Michael Kakembo, the Entebbe Municipality MP and the Whip of the DF members in Parliament, on behalf of the party president Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, committed to providing capacity building for all the nominated candidates in the Teso region and the entire country on the DF ticket, focusing on political and leadership skills.
Mr. Henry Lubowa, the chairperson of the DF’s Electoral Commission, stated that the exercise has been a success.
