KAMPALA– The World Council of Religious Leaders has condemned the State of Israel for what it describes as a dangerous Zionist ideology that promotes the total destruction of lives and property, including deliberate starvation—actions that spare no one, not even innocent children, women, the elderly, the disabled, or the general population in the occupied Gaza Strip, Palestine.
This was disclosed by His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, during a media briefing held shortly after he chaired the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) weekly National Management Committee meeting on Tuesday, August 5th, 2025, at the UMSC headquarters in Old Kampala.
The Mufti revealed that during the recent executive meeting of the World Council of Religious Leaders—which included Jewish Rabbis—a resolution was unanimously passed condemning the inhumane and heinous crimes committed by the State of Israel. These include mass killings of Palestinians and the deliberate starvation of survivors in the wake of indiscriminate aerial bombardments of the Gaza Strip. The Mufti said the world has been left in shock, witnessing the unprecedented massacre of babies and innocent civilians without mercy.
He further informed the media that the meeting also focused on preparations for the upcoming World Gathering of Religious Leaders, which will bring together over 1,000 leaders from various denominations. The summit is scheduled to be held under the auspices of the Government of the United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi. The previous gathering took place in Germany with support from the German government.
In related developments, Dr. Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, the 2nd Deputy Mufti, has returned from a working visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he held fruitful engagements with top leaders of the Muslim World League (MWL) at its headquarters in the Holy City of Makkah.
