KAMPALA– High Court Criminal Division in Kampala has fixed the hearing of the bail application of the founder member of People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) founder member, Col (Rtd) Dr. kiiza Besigye and his aide Hajji Obeid Lutale.

According to the cause list seen by this website, the matter has been fixed for August 6th 2025.
The fixing of this case followed , the intense pressure from Besigye’s lawyers, Political figures and Human Rights Activists questioning what could have caused the disappearance of Besigye’s file from Justice Emmanuel Baguma.
During their last appearance before High court, Besigye’s lawyers were informed by Justice Baguma that he didn’t know the whereabouts of the Bail application file which had been filed earlier in the Court’s Registry.
This left questions in many people’s heads wondering on what could be the next step in securing Besigye’s temporary rights pending the hearing of the matter.
In April this year , High Court judge Rosette Kania declined to grant bail to the duo on grounds that although they had presented substantial sureties, the matter they are charged of is complex in nature and investigations were still under way.
The duo are charged with treason offence which carries a maximum penalty of death.
According to the prosecution, Dr. Besigye, Hajj Lutale, Capt Denis Oola, and others still at large allegedly plotted to overthrow the government by force of arms between 2023 and November 2024. The alleged plot spans multiple countries, including Geneva (Switzerland), Athens (Greece), Nairobi (Kenya), and Kampala City.
