Former Gomba District Chairperson and NRM stronghold in the district, Abdul Kyabanji, has officially submitted his expression of interest forms and has been nominated by the Democratic Front Electoral Commission to stand for the Gomba District Chairperson on the Democratic Front ticket.

Hajji Abdul Kyabanji, popularly known as the “Young Museveni” (ka Museveni akato) in Gomba District, defected from the NRM party and joined the new political party, the Democratic Front .
While presenting his expression of interest forms to the party’s electoral commission, headed by Mr. Henry Lubowa, Hajji Abdul Kyabanji informed the committee that his decision to join the Democratic Front was influenced by the undemocratic practices within the NRM party, including vote rigging, uncontrolled monetization of politics, and a shrinking space for dissenting views.
Kyabanji noted that he could no longer cooperate with such an institution, thus opting to join the Democratic Front.
Hajji Kyabanji, who served as the Gomba District Chairperson from 2011-2016, mentioned that during all the times he participated in the NRM primaries, his victories were repeatedly robbed by those wielding money and the power of the gun.
Kyabanji has vowed to mobilize Gomba to shift its loyalty from the NRM to the Democratic Front, and that he will work tirelessly to identify and promote candidates on the Democratic Front ticket at all levels to win positions in the district.
The Democratic Front Electoral Commission has also nominated Dr. Elaija Yiga for the Gomba East parliamentary seat and many others

As of today, over 150 candidates have submitted their expression of interest forms to the party’s electoral commission since the exercise started.
