NAKASERO– President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has joined the millions of people worldwide, mourning the passing Prof. George Wilson Kanyeihamba who passed away a week back.
In his condolence message released by the President via his official X account, commended Kanyeihamba for his contribution to Uganda and the NRM over the years.
“I remember first meeting Professor Kanyeihamba, I think, at the historic debate between Prof. Mazrui and Dr. Rodney at Makerere University. This is when Prof. Mazrui, in his remarks, said that he was not in “conflict” with Dr. Rodney, whereupon Rodney said that they cannot be in “conflict” because they were not even in “touch”. That after the debate, Museveni met Kanyeihamba again in UK as part of their external committee in the 1981-86 war. “After liberation, he became part of the NRM Government as a minister and, at one time, he represented Rubanda. Later on, he became a Judge.”
Prof. Kanyeihamba passed away on 14th, July 2025 at 85 years of age.
Justice Prof. George Wilson Kanyeihamba was an accomplished author, teacher, politician and judge who also served as a Cabinet Minister and member of Parliament. He was also the Chairperson of the Legal Committee of the Constituent Assembly that made the 1995 Constitution.
